Panama, Bocas Del Toro & Bluff Beach

Recently on our vacation in Panama we went to Bluff Beach on Isla Colon just North of Bocas Del Toro. It’s not really a swimmers beach. And even though there are big waves, they crash too quickly for the surfer crowd.

What was amazing was seeing the “evidence” of a sea turtle coming to shore and laying its eggs. Apparently something got to a few of the eggs, perhaps a dog by the look of the other tracks around the area. Given that sea turtles lay hundreds of eggs at a time perhaps this minor loss to an animal will have little impact.

Another from my visit Sanibel Island...

I have some really good photographs from the trip. This one however I just can't stop looking at. Technically it's a mess. But something about the blurred bird in the foreground and our in-focus friend in the background just works. It gives the image a depth and some personality...or perhaps life and a bit of wonder about the little guy in the background swooping in. Something that a technically superior shot of two birds wouldn't convey.

This is why I love photography...the occasional surprises and discovery of how a subject and situation can evolve into an amazing image.

Behind in my work...

I've yet to parse through and process most of the photos from our visit to Cape May in September. Here's a small sample though. Straight out of the camera. Remember what it was like to be a kid and not care what kind of weather was at the beach? That'd be Sophia. It was rainy and cold this particular day and she still was having a great time.

A nice relaxing weekend and found treasure

So I'm spending the weekend out on Long Island at the GF's parent's place. They have a beach front house with a semi-private beach. I'm fortunate enough to be able to venture out at low tide and snap away.

Found this little critter last night. Never ever thought I'd find one of these on the beach, let alone this large and this far North. I estimate he's a good 6" head to tail stretched out. Have him drying in the sun on the deck right now so I can show him to my 6 year old daughter when I get home.
